About ShelterNet

ShelterNet is a countywide project whose mission is to join together the providers of residential services to the homeless on a common, state-of-the-art database for the purpose of collection and analysis of data on homelessness.  The funding for the project has been awarded under the auspices of the Broome County Homeless Coalition and comes from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  Five agencies with 19 distinct programs included in the initial phase are Fairview Recovery Services, the Binghamton YWCA, the YMCA of Broome County, the Volunteers of America, and the Teen Transitional Living Program of Catholic Charities.   Expected short-term outcomes of this project are an increase in the productivity of case managers in participating agencies, improved coordination of services, and establishment of a central repository of data for planning and policymaking.  The ultimate goal of ShelterNet is to improve the quality of services to the homeless, increase the number of placements into permanent housing, and reduce the level of chronic homelessness in Broome County.
